We are looking for Strategic Communications & Benefits Analysis Support to join the Octagon Professionals projects team at the European Space Agency (ESA) in Noordwijk (ESTEC). This role will support the Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration at ESA, with responsibilities in both Noordwijk, The Netherlands, and Cologne, Germany. The purpose of this service is to assist HRE-FS in defining, planning, and executing internal and external communication and outreach activities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate integrity and professionalism.

The successful candidate will be tasked with, but not limited to:
- Support the implementation of the end-to-end benefit management process oftheESA space exploration programme [RD-05], including:
- Development and maintenance of a knowledge repository on ESA space exploration programme benefits;
- Development of products and support actions to raise awareness on the benefits from institutional investments in space exploration (e.g., benefits portal, videos);
- Support to socio-economic impacts assessments of Terrae Novae missions and activities;
- Support to the HRE annual benefits review and coordination of the corresponding Annual report on Terrae Novae benefits management;
- Create scripts, storyboards, and narratives synthesising Terrae Novae missions and activities, including: Vision, objectives, and goals, strategy, benefits as a basis for producing descriptions, visuals, artwork, video-graphical animations, videos, etc.
- Support the translation of specific HRE strategic, programmatic, and mission-specific information into impactful presentation and outreach products, including: presentations, infographics, visuals, narratives etc. Communication and outreach products for stakeholders (e.g., programme board and council meetings, bilateral meetings with delegations, industry, scientific community).
- Produce and maintain reference HRE presentation slide decks, including a standard Terrae Novae presentation slide deck and a collection of videos for internal and external communication and outreach initiatives.
- Support internal HRE events/staff meetings in various formats (e.g., town hall meetings with or without live streaming, focused webinars), including designing the format, designing the stage, supporting speakers in producing presentation material.
- Oversee, prepare, and implement approved focused strategic internal and external communication and outreach initiatives, addressing professional space and non-space communities to: connect professional audiences with the world of space exploration and nurture a passion for science and technology.
- Support the delivery of Innovation Challenges (e.g. the Space Resources Challenge), including the following activities:
- Challenge design and planning. Support the definition of the scope, objectives, requirements, and themes of future innovation challenges and develop detailed project plans outlining timelines, milestones, and deliverables;
- Participant and partner Define and implement marketing and outreach strategies and develop communication materials (e.g., challenge brochures, promotional content) to engage industry and academia;
- Development of challenge rule books outlining the rules, eligibility criteria, submission guidelines, evaluation criteria, and any other pertinent information, serving as a detailed framework to guide participating teams in each challenge. Implementation of OSIP (Open Space Innovation Platform) calls for selecting participating teams for each challenge;
- Challenge coordination and Establish and maintain clear communication channels with participants, organisers, partners, and other stakeholders throughout the challenge lifecycle, facilitate workshops, webinars, and networking events to support participant collaboration, and coordinate logistics for challenge events, including field tests;
- Post-challenge support and impact assessment by conducting impact assessments using predefined metrics, preparing reports and case studies showcasing successful innovations, lessons learned, and best practices, and fostering ongoing collaboration among participants, sponsors, and industry stakeholders.
Job requirements
- A Master's or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field;
- At least 4 years of relevant experience;
- Highly proficient in communication means and social media;
- Professional trainings in relevant subjects are an asset;
- Customer orientated;
- Teamwork attitude;
- Diplomatic and political sensibility;
- Understanding of international environments;
- Autonomy in delivery;
- Proactive attitude;
- Open to flexible working hours;
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
